Backhoe Loaders

The YHONG ME20 backhoe loader combines a front loading bucket with a rear digging arm on a single roadable chassis. It is intended for contractors, utilities and municipal crews that need to excavate, load and travel between jobs without moving two machines.

Backhoe Loaders

Overview

A backhoe loader is a compromise, and a good one when the work is varied. The front bucket handles loading, grading and backfilling, while the rear arm digs trenches, footings and service pits. Stability comes from the machine's weight and from the stabilisers, which should be deployed before the arm is used; digging over the side or on a slope changes the load on the legs and the tyres. Reach and dig depth are functions of the boom geometry, and buyers should check them against the deepest trench and the furthest placement the job requires. Road speed matters where the machine travels between sites, and tyre choice balances road wear against traction in mud.

Backhoe loaders are common on utilities, road maintenance, house building, drainage and municipal work, where one machine can open a trench, lift a pipe and backfill before moving on. They also suit rental fleets because the format is familiar to many operators and covers several jobs.

03 / Engineering

What every machine shares.

Two machines in one chassis

A front loader bucket and a rear digging arm share one engine and one operator, which reduces machine movements on site.

Stabilisers for digging

Drop-leg stabilisers support the rear of the machine so the arm can work without the chassis rocking.

Roadable chassis

The machine travels between jobs under its own power, avoiding a low-loader move for short distances.

Familiar control layout

Loader and backhoe functions use conventional controls, which shortens induction for operators who have run backhoes before.

04 / FAQ

Backhoe Loaders: common questions

Is a backhoe loader better than a mini excavator?

They solve different problems. A backhoe loads trucks, travels on the road and handles mixed site work with one operator. A mini excavator accesses confined spaces and digs close to structures. Many contractors run both rather than choosing one.

Can the backhoe dig on a slope?

Only with care and within the machine's stability limits. Set the stabilisers, keep the load low, avoid digging over the side on steep ground, and follow the manufacturer's guidance and the site risk assessment.

What is the front bucket used for?

Loading, grading, backfilling and carrying material around the site. It is not a precision excavator, so bucket type should match the material, and the load should be carried low and within the machine's rated capacity.

What should buyers check on a used backhoe?

Inspect boom and dipper welds, pins and bushings, hydraulic hoses, stabiliser legs and tyres. Check the transmission, brakes and steering, and ask for service records. Wear in the backhoe linkage is the most expensive common issue.
